SPRING 2012
Welcome to the Spring Great Aswego Kazoo Factory Newsletter
Spring arrived on the homestead early this year!! It has been almost like we skipped spring and went straight to summer after being blessed with a very mild winter. As you can see in the picture the homestead is full of color and the bees are busy gathering pollen. Winter was a busy time in the workshop, making lots of kazoos and other new original Aswego Folk Instruments and much is planned for this Spring. I am so happy to start the Spring of 2012 with Aswego Kazoos in all fifty United States and 16 countries. I send a big old Doc Kazoo Thank You to each Aswego Kazooist around the world.
NATIONAL KAZOO DAY 2012
I hope everyone had a chance to participate in this years National Kazoo Day celebrations.
Each year I make a special kazoo to celebrate our humble instrument and I am proud to announce that the 2012 Annual Aswego Special Edition National Kazoo Day Barbara Stewart Dual Resonator Kazoo was shipped to Vitaly S. in Murmansk, Russia.
My greatest joy in kazoo making isn't to make a great profit from my work. It is to see my kazoos leave the workshop on their journey to kazooist around the world. I want to thank each Aswego Kazooist for their kind comments and appreciation of my folk kazoos. You can read, see and hear what Aswego Kazooist have to say about their instruments on the website. I do thank everyone sending me their comments, pictures and videos. I apologize if your comments aren't incluced. A recent major computer crash resulted in the loss of a great deal of information.
Your appreciation is the greatest profit this old kazoo maker/ folk artist could ever hope for. Drop by the website and have a look at some of the great

NEW FOLK INSTRUMENTS FROM THE WORKSHOP
THE DOC KAZOO "GOAT STOMPER" ELECTRIC STOMPBOX
The first few weeks after Christmas is typically a slow time in the workshop when I have time to work on other folk instruments I have been thinking about the past year but didn't have time to make. This spring I made three new Aswego Folk Instruments. These include the "Goat Stomper" you see pictures above and the following pictures of the "Country Cello" and "Whalebone".
The "Goat Stomper" was given this name as in the final prototype of this instrument the sides were made from some old wood I recycled from an old goat barn here on the homestead that I tore down a few years ago. This is a unique Doc Kazoo design electric stompbox.
THE ASWEGO COUNTRY CELLO
Another news instrument is the Aswego Electric Country Cello. This instruments is kinda based on the old washtub bass with a few Doc Kazoo ideas.
THE ASWEGO WHALEBONE
Last but not least is the Aswego Whalebone. This instrument is another unique Doc Kazoo designed combo folk instrument. The Whalebone is both a Scratcher (guiro) and Tapper (clave) made from beautiful teak. The Whalebone is still "under construction" and will be available very soon. The design is based on an old instrument I once saw in a Maritime Museum in England that was a guiro made of a whalebone.
DOC KAZOO'S NEW MUSIC CD
In January I started recording tracks for a new music CD that is planned for release this fall. This is a collection of original Doc Kazoo and traditional folk songs featuring acoustic guitar and a few original Doc Kazoo Folk instruments. In 2010 I released my "bucket list" album which was a real learning experience for me in terms of recording and mixing thanks to help for independent musician friends at Two Track Music.

This winter Doc Kazoo joined a group of remarkable handmade instrument makers at the Handmade Music Clubhouse, hosted by Ted Crocker. Now if you want to see some creative homemade instruments you have got to give the clubhouse a visit. If you are a homemade instrument maker you invited to join Doc Kazoo and a host of very talented artisians. They sure made this old kazoo maker feel right at home and I know you will feel the same. So be sure and drop by and say hello.
Can you find the old kazoo maker in the clubhouse picture?
Hint: He's playing the Country Cello
